Explaining Rosgen Classification
Exercise Objective
To assess the earlier Rosgen classification of Reaches based on described fluvial geomorphologic characteristics.
Exercise Explanation
- The first statement of a Reach with an Entrenchment Ratio greater than 2.2, width to depth ratio less than 12, Sinuosity greater than 1.5, and slopes less than 0.02 is an E channel. Sand substrate is a class 5. The Stream Reach is an E5.
- The second statement of a Reach with an Entrenchment Ratio less than 1.4, width to depth ratio less than 12, Sinuosity greater than 1.2, and slopes less than 0.02 is an F channel. Cobble substrate is a class 3. The Stream Reach is an F3.
