Channel Evolution & Departure

river evolution

Along a channel with bank failure, width to depth ratio increases, Sinuosity decreases, slope increase, sediment supply increases, sediment transport decreases. In this image, the channel with gravel bed material moves through this sequence, from Meandering E4 to a wider Meandering C4 with central bars, and finally to a braided D4.
